Swimming Lessons

The Jones kids love swimming lessons, well up to a certain age. Kyle actually forgot that I didn't have him take swimming lessons last year and in a panic said, Mom you're not going to make me take swimming lessons are you?" Can you imagine him at 5'10" hanging out with the 10 year olds. It did make me giggle. This summer was so crazy, busy that we had to sign up the week before school and the first week of school. The good part is that everyone is so excited for school to start until after the first day of school, so they had something fun to do when they came home. The bad part was that the heater was broken, so no heated pool.

This is pretty much how Kristen looked the whole time with goggles and mostly swimming. She was in an hour class and she really got her money's worth. Her teacher was Ryan, who Olivia had as well. He was great and she learned so much.

Natalie passed her class and became an excellent diver. Her class was full of kids that all wanted to be first, just like Nat. I felt bad for the teacher. What a great dive.

We ended with shaved ice, which was pretty hard to find since the summer season was over. It was still worth it and no one complained about the frigid water.

Florida 1

Our trip to Florida was such a break, especially for Jeff. It was a business trip, that I was able to accompany Jeff on. The first part of the trip was in Orlando at the JWMarriott. Jeff went to classes in the day then we met up at breaks and played at night and on the last day. Orlando is really a beautiful place, but not what I expected. In fact in some parts it reminded me of downtown Fresno with the Palm trees and outside malls. In the days it normally rained really hard for a few minutes then cleared right up. The resort had a lazy river and a volleyball court. I was surprised that we actually had a pick up game with some other guests and played with the brokers the next night. We went to a Medieval Times and floated the Lazy River. We spent this time with the Jamie and Janet. It was very hot and humid, just like we expected, but so beautiful.

The Reunion

This year to prepare for the reunion Annalisa and Kristen made 492 cookies. They were all delicious!!

We played a lot before the reunion, but this year the official reunion was in an IF hotel. Lisa planned it and it really turned out fantastic.

Water ballet as often as you like. They swam about 3 times at least.

Lisa welcomed us with the theme "Together We Stand." This reunion was kind of a memorial to Dad and how he felt about his family and how we can do anything if we love and support each other. Together we can handle any trial or obstacle.
We started off with a get to know you game where we asked everyone the same question. But, each person had a different question to ask. It was fun. Lisa also organized and assembled a book that had each person's interests and asked questions, so we could see what we have in common with each other.

Everyone received a keychain with all the names and the temple to remember.
Then Lisa asked me to write a song with this theme. I wrote it as if Grandad were speaking.

The older grandkids sang it with Elliotte accompanying.

Next it was Fooz Ball at the church. It was a blast.

The next morning we went to the cemetary. Everyone received a balloon and at the same time we let go sending a message to Grandad. It was really neat to see all the balloons go. It was a great feeling.

Next we cleaned up the cemetary and fixed the sign for a service project.

After a picnic and ice blocking or frisbee golf....

we ended back at the hotel for Cafe Rio and popcorn and a movie.

Florida 3

Carrie talked us into spending our last night at Disney's Magic Kingdom.

The whole Disney park is humungous. We kept thinking we were almost there. These first three pictures are almost there. The first is the polynesian village. Then you buy your ticked at the entrance. Then you ride the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. We finally found it and the fun began.

We went for all the good rides during the fireworks show and saw about all we wanted to. We got to our hotel at 1:30am and woke up at 4:00am and got on our plane home. It was totally worth it.

Florida 2

The next part of our trip was visiting the Stephanis. The drive from Orlando to Panama City Beach was what we expected Florida to look like, except we didn't expect the pine trees. Each little town along the way was covered with trees and foliage. Even a broken down car or old trailer house looked quaint. I was really hoping to see an alligator, since there were signs to warn about them, but no. We stopped at a watermelon stand and tried boiled peanuts. We weren't fond of the peanuts especially on a hot summer day. The most fun part was to feel the southern hospitality. We stopped at a gas station to ask directions to Walmart. The cashier gave directions and actually called me Mam 4 times. Then the guy behind us gave better directions. Then while we were driving a car honked and rolled down their window to tell us to turn here for Walmart. I loved it. We arrived at Carrie's and it was nice to see Gabe after all of his treatment. He had a lot more energy than I expected. He's really a fun dad. It was so great to be with the kids. They are very creative and imaginative. Carrie of course is a ball of fire and can do anything. I'm just so impressed with how well they are doing for such an ordeal.

I loved going to church with them so we could see how their life is and meet some of their friends. Carrie surprised me with teaching the Relief Society lesson on Marriage and doing a fantastic job.

The next day, Gabe actually had enough energy to take us surfing. Carrie said that he doesn't play sick, so if he can he will and if he can't he won't.

Gabe pushed us off and I actually got up and rode a wave in. As you can see they are small, but hey a wave is a wave.

After a few hours a crazy storm came and we had to run every one and thing to the car. The umbrella was being blown away. The beach was clear in 5 minutes. Then it was just a lot of rain. Since Carrie's house is .8 miles from the beach and no one was out, we walked home in the rain, which was my favorite thing we did on this whole trip. It was like a warm shower.

As you know it took forever for Summer to come permanently this year. So when that hot,toasty day came, having an excuse to get wet was welcome.

Here is my sister, Melinda and I washing our car in California. It was all about getting to climb on the top. And I guess wearing a swimming suit or underwear was acceptable attire.

The Duct Tape Boat

A few years ago I had a friend tell me about how her stake does duct tape boat races at Camp Cumorah. I couldn't really wrap my brain around it because I was picturing a cardboard boat covered with duct tape. Then she explained how you get these old boxes from this local company and that they are 3 cardboards thick. Then you cut them with hack saws and assemble them using duct tape. Well, we got some boxes for our stake to use this year at girls camp and had a few extra. So, after about 6 rolls of duct and a few days of preparation it was ready to sail in our ditch/canal. Now just for the record I already realize that I let my kids do stuff like float in the canal that other parents wouldn't. So, we waited until a super hot day when no kids were out, just so we wouldn't be too bad of an influence. T

Lady With The Green Glove

It was Katelyn's last day of work at Sunnyside Nursery and her crazy cousin happened to be in town. That crazy cousin is me, Kathryn. Anyway, Kate and I cooked a scheme where I would stop by her work and ask a lot of weird questions that would freak out her co-workers and other customers. Katelyn headed to work and I worked on my part of the plan. I decided to go big, so instead of just a wierd customer, I became the crazy lady with the green glove. I dressed up in a ridiculous outfit and headed over with some undercover agents (Anna, Kristen, and Erin). When we got there, I walked inside and immediately heads turned. Katelyn was shaking her head and laughing in what I hope was embarassment. I browsed the bird feeders and took one up to the register. There, I asked Katelyn why it was a "Funky Bird Feeder" and why they didn't have any normal bird feeders. All I wanted was a normal bird feeder. The other cashier was in shock and the customers were wondering why in the world I had one green glove on. Katelyn and I proceeded to look at the garden gnomes, the only problem was there was no singing or dancing gnomes. We went and looked at the fertilizers. There, I told the story of how my cat died because there was too much nitrogen in the fertilizer. People were really wondering what was wrong with me and Katelyn and I could barely contain our laughter. We looked at the trees that were too shady then Katelyn took the gnome back inside. I went back in to get a bigger gnome, but Katelyn had already the other cashier by then who I was. I needed one more prank before I left, so I proclaimed her a failure as I left the store and went to find an oblivious co-worker. I saw a young man and asked if he could help me get my toy cat out of a tightly closed canister in my purse. He said he would. I told him I would have opened it, but I had to keep my glove on. It was my tribute to Michael Jackson. He said he would need a screwdriver to which I responded, "Why, can't you do it yourself?" He got it open, by himself (see I'm inspiring others to be their best selves) and I took my little cat out and went to the car. It was a very successful prank if I do say so myself, not only on Sunnyside Nursery, but Katelyn too, but she asked for it and I gave it too her in the most over the top way possible. And yes, this really is the outfit I wore the the store, in public.

Peonies

If you are not a flower person, you may not understand, but Peonies are one of my favorites. My neighbor was going on an extended vacation and said I could cut some because they would be dead by the time she got home. I was basically in heaven because not only are they beautiful but very fragrant.

Olivia Turns 5

The funniest thing about Livvy's birthday was that she smiled from ear to ear the whole day. I think it was the first year that she really got it and enjoyed every minute. Breakfast in bed and Arctic Circle with Launa.

Softball

Soft ball was really fun this year, both of our children were able to be coached by Scott S., who is Kyle's football coach. We really appreciate his dedication and high expectations. As a result Kristen and Nat really learned a lot and had a great season.

What's Up With Anna

To start off, Anna was in the chorus this year. She had no choir experience, so she wanted to learn the basics. Well needless to say this must have been a college level beginning chorus. Her teacher required them to come in regularly to sing privately, so they could move their grade up to an A. She went in early many times, sometimes when the teacher wasn't there and barely sqeaked out an A. You never know when a teacher is going to take a class that seriously.

Her performance was exquisite.

Next came her first 5K. She just signed up and decided to give it a try. She's off.

20 Years

Yes we have been married for 20 years June 14th. And it has been a blast.

Jeff and I met in our apartment complex, Park Plaza where we were also attended the same ward. It started out as a friendly crush and ended up in love and marriage.
Now 20 years later we can't imagine life without each other. I'm still crazy about him and he adores me. We're in heaven!
We celebrated our actual anniversary at Lava Hot Springs. Because it was in the middle of the week, it wasn't that busy. We stayed in Lions Gate Inn, which was a new Bed and Breakfast out of town. It was so dreamy. After leaving the Inn we relaxed in the mineral waters, slid down the speed slides and jumped off the lowest platform. It was pretty scary. We will continue this celebration in Florida in July.

We were married in the Oakland temple. It was a beautiful day. We are walking out the door of the temple as man and wife for the first time. I thought it was going to be great, but I had no idea how fantastic it would be after 20 years of marriage to this handsome guy. It just gets better and better. He is awesome!

Glasses

Lately Natalie has been very interested in getting glasses. I remember wanting glasses in 5th grade, but not 2nd. It could be because of the 10 pairs of dollar store glasses that are positioned throughout the house. I used them for reading. Now I actually wear one pair all the time. Natalie has been wearing my other glasses regularly. I will have to say that these girls look pretty cute in them. For your information I asked Walmart Pharmacy if they would sell glasses without a prescription. They said yes. I informed Natalie that if she wanted to use her own money and pay 10.00 for some glasses she could. She is thinking about it.

Although Flower Power reminds most people of the 60's. My Flower Power gets me through these crazy long winters. I have many bulbs planted and when they they bloom it gives me hope, I'm serious. It makes me happy. So when I'm old and gray and I have bulbs planted in every nook and cranny of my yar4d don't be surprised. Here are the first flowers that came up. This is before all of the tulips bloomed, which also brought me great joy.

When it's supposed to be Spring in Idaho, we jump on any semi-good day and do a weinie roast. I'm remembering that it started slightly snowing at the end of this one. The kids are usually so excited for summer that they just want to get that old familiar smell.

Bear World

After 16 years in Idaho Falls we finally broke down and went to Bear World. The three older kids all had something going on, so we took the ones that would appreciate it the most, Kristen, Natalie and Olivia. It was half price day and was totally worth it. This is how it went. We drove through the park and expected to see a few elk, deer, and one bear. To our surprise we some elk, deer, a moose, buffalo and a ton of bears. They were mostly lazing around, but we actually saw so many that we lost count.

Then the kids each got to pet a baby bear and play at the playland which is included and would have bored the older ones, but was perfect for the younger.
We decided to go throught the wild park part one more time. It was a lot like the first until this bear walked right in front our car and then stood up on two legs and hugged our car by the left, back passenger window. We were so amazed and loving it for the kids. That bear stayed and kept grabbing our car. We got it on video, if anyone wants to see it. The best part was Natalie yelling, " This is so awesome. I love this." over and over. Kristen will always remember how she switched Nat seats to see better and wished she hadn't. This bear was in Natalie's face at least three separate times. I don't know if that will ever happen again. It was awesome. It did leave a few scratch marks. Luckily it was our old car.

The Track Season

Annalisa has always loved to run. I don't mean she goes jogging all the time, but she loves to play sports that require running like soccor, etc. So this year she tried track for the first time. She loved it!! She ran the 100yard dash and the 200 meter and occasionally the relay. Well at a Tiger Griz Freshman Classic, she and her relay team got second place. It was pretty exciting.

Perrys

Kyle's Awesome Quiz

For as long as I can remeber we have had a junk drawer. It is full of junk that the kids might use to create stuff, but it's pretty much garbage. Kyle also has a drawer full of old Christmas lights. So this is a quiz and you put one wire on the question and the other wire on the answer. Then if it's right the Christmas light goes on. I thought it was awesome, but I think most kids now days make these eventually.

Winter with the Webbs

We lucked out and got a visit from the Webbs. Well actually they came to see Jeff's mom, but we love to benifit from visits to mom. And we love the Webbs. So we packed in the fun and even planned a date for Elliotte who had just turned 16.

We now get to enjoy Michael's brothers family more often as well because they sold their house in Logan and are looking for one here while they stay with Jeff's mom.

This date turned out to be really fun. Taylor came up with the idea of making a meal. He and Elliotte made the main dish and Kate and Weston made the dessert. Add pop and it's a guys perfect dinner. Salad Shmalad, it probably wouldn't fit on the plate anyway.

Conference and Grandparents

This year for conference we had a little surprise. My parents came for a few days. It was so great to have them and they tried to take as many kids as possible on individual date. Mostly it's just nice that they can come up from Manti instead of the 15 hour drive from California.

St Patricks Day is always a help in getting through the long winter months. I enjoy St. Patricks day, but there are some people who love it. I mean really love it. My sister Heidi Jo loves it. My neice Tess and my daughter Kristen all love it. Kristen actually buys green items and accessories with her own money in anticipation of this holiday. Even Natalie's stuff belongs to Kristen. Why, do you ask.. The only thing that I can think of is all of these people have green eyes and call green one of their favorite colors. I personally think that many of them enjoy when they don't wear green on St. Patricks Day and can say, " I have green on because my eyes are green." Or when people say, " Are your eyes green?" They can shyly say, "Yes." but secretly feel like they have the coolest eyes on the planet. Now you know that I'm teasing, but if any of this is true of your green eyed friends or relatives, I'd like to knowl. I'm pretty sure that my green eyed husband did some of this, and I have to admit that his eyes are pretty cool.

Oliva is the sweetest girl. She is constantly trying to figure out things to do for me. Sometimes it goes on and on all day. So this is her latest. She makes a bed for you.

It's not usually on a bed. It's usually on the floor or couch somewhere. There is a blanket with a pillow. Then she will put a personal item like a stuffed animal in your favorite color or a tie for Jeff or a football for Kyle. Then she will put a movie. Then it becomes your bed and she wants you to sleep in it. She did one for everyone yesterday. So we all layed on our new beds and hugged our stuffed animal and looked at our movies.

Today I suggested that she make Jeff and my beds on our real bed. So, she went a little crazy and added an outfit, houseshoes, shoes, etc. I really want to remember how sweet and thougtful Livvy was when she was four, so I can say "Don cha nember."

HJ and Bridges

In March Heidi Jo came for a visit with Bridger. As I am typing this, Livvy keeps saying, "He is sooo cute!" and she keeps saying it. It's true. He is so cute, and the fun part is while he was here he started walking. We even recorded it. Heidi Jo is a cleaner and besides cleaning, she redecorated a lot of our house with things we already had. It looks much better, and she does have some serious skills.She also introduced us to a game that she made for Brandon's class, Sweet Town. We played and rate it a four star.

This is a picture of us each wearing one of my 10 pairs of dollar store glasses. Yes, I need glasses. The problem is that I don't need them sometimes, like when I'm at a volleyball game or outside. So, off and on and I have glasses everywhere.

Glamour girls

I wanted to include these pictures because it is so rare that Natalie will allow herself to look glamorous. She is very anti-pink and purple. She's not really into cute clothes either. She is into diamonds, which is very glamorous. Curling her hair is pretty much a miracle. This is her Christmas dress.

Annalisa talked them into it and I'm glad we got it recorded.

Kristen's Projects

They had a T-shirt contest on Idaho. This is Kristen's design and she won first place for the fourth grade.

Then, her favorite activity at school was the recorder. The kids could pass off songs. Kristen was awarded with this glass note necklace that she is wearing because she was the first to pass off all the

songs and was asked to play a solo at the concert.

Lastly Kristen bought a kelly green ukulele. She was so excited and now is trying to learn how to play from the internet.

Ice Skating

This winter, Natalie begged me to let her try iceskating. In all the 16 years I've lived here I never went ice skating. So we signed Nat up through Parks and Rec and she did great. She was always trying to do this bending down thing where you drag your back foot. The experienced skaters do this. She loved it so much that we went as a family for Kristen's birthday. I have to admit it was really fun even for me.

Cousins make everything more fun. Don't they look experienced?

This year for her Birthday, Kristen had a unique request. She asked for letters. She really is one of the last letter writers in America. She longs for pen pals. She has a few letter writing buddies, but for her birthday she asked for Birthday letters. This is the first one from Laurie Stoker. She received letters all month and I have to admit it was awesome. She got a lot of letters and was in letter writer's heaven. Thanks everyone for making her dreams come true.

Kristen turned ten this year. We actually won this amazing cake at a service auction from Michelle Farnsworth. Can you believe how awesome it is. Kristen's b-day started off with the usual breakfast in bed. We took it down to her room which we call the dungeon. It is not finished and the door is an old peice of wood that we used at a country fair to throw pies through.
The lucky thing about turning 10 is you are in the dishes rotation. Kyle claims to have been in the rotation since age 2. He's very happy about this birthday.

We usually ask the birthday girl if she wants someone to stay with her and keep her company. She even got a little entertainment.

Valentines Party

You know how exciting it is for a kid, especially a girl to buy that cheap box of valentines to give out to your friends. Well Olivia felt the same way, but driving around to all her friends and giving them a valentine didn't seem that fun to me, so we had a valentine exchange party at our house. Mom(Jeff's Mom)had received this cute fabric bag from her visiting teachers and found the pattern, then surprised us with making one for each of the guests. They were so cute. She and Olivia filled them with candy. It was a super fun party and was cute how none of the kids quite knew how to put a valentine in each bag.

New Years Eve

This year for New Years we stayed home. Michael and Stephanie and kids came over and Kate had a few friends over. We ate played a few games and had a great time.

In Loving Memory

As many of you know Jeff's Dad passed away January 9, 2011. We miss him dearly. We decided to focus on how we remember him. He was a big part of our lives and we don't want to forget the great times we shared.

Jeff remembers: Dad came to see Katelyn recieve her Young Womens Medallion Days before he moved to Salt Lake. He could hardly stand, but he wanted to be there. I will always be grateful for his love and support. One of my favorite memories was sitting on top of many mountains and watching a fall afternoon go by as we hunted. More recently, our morning breakfasts at Cedrics, just him and I.

We had some great visits.

Jeff: loving, gentle, patriotic, hard working, self made man

Katelyn remembers harmonica lessons and how he could play just about anything, trips to the Hostess store, and him coming to see her get my Young Women's medallion after he just got out of the hospital.

Kate: He was always supportive, he had a strong testimony, he was always joking with us and told good stories.

Annalisa remembers: He always played the games with us at the family reunions. We camped in the backyard and he told us stories like the Washer and the Arrow.

Anna: He was playful, kind and generous

Kyle remembers going metal detecting, fishing, mowing the lawn together and building stuff together.

Kyle: Grandad is funny, nice, smart and awesome

Kristen remembers family reunions together, and him always making jokes and stuff.

Kristen: He is generous and really fun to be with and funny

Natalie remembers helping him build.

Natalie: He is nice and always helps me and because he loves me.

On Christmas night we do a Christmas talent show called " The Program." Usually we do this with Grammy and Grandad Jones and any other family who is visiting.

Jeff and Kyle did the funniest skit. It is a the sequel to their original funny skit Sportacus. This was Sporticus II. It was great and we all laughed.

This year Christmas Eve was at our house which hasn't happened for a while. Now that I think of it, we've only had this and when Jeff's parents were on their mission at our house. Normally we go to Jeff's Parent's house. Jeff's Dad is in the hospital in Salt Lake City waiting on a liver transplant. We really missed them.

How did they do it? Well, Kyle stood on the inside and when they got closer to the top, they would stack and he would pack from the inside.

We went to a few Christmas parties. I personally love a white elephant party. I recently learned from a friend that a true white elephant is something you already own and don't use. So, I found some old frames and Katelyn gave us the idea to put pictures of us in them. Because who wouldn't want pictures of us. So hear are the pictures we shared. In years past we have tried our best to cut down a tree. A. It is $5.00. B. We live pretty close to the mountains. C. It is an adventure to hike in the mountains to find that perfect tree that ends up looking spindly by the time you get home. This year we couldn't cut one down because there was too much snow. So, we got one at the local tree lot. Most of the big ones are tied up, so you hope for the best and don't ask them to open them unless you are serious. The tree we chose is so beautiful and full. It may not happen again for a long time, but we really enjoyed this tree. It did take up a lot of space, but who needs space in the family room.

December 1st was the big day for Kate. Our first child to turn 16. Now what do you do for a girl turning 16. Do you embarrass them at school, throw a party? We decided to go the easy route and get her a cell phone, which she was wondering if she ever would. Katelyn claims that she was the only person in her seminary class that didn't have one. We have this policy that we can't be coerced into doing anything because everyone else is doing it. We don't have an official rule in our family, but we finally felt good about getting one for Kate. She was really surprised and thrilled.

Now it has actually been a few months and she has been on a date and actually gotten a job. I guess sixteen does have it's advantages. I forgot to mention that having a driver is pretty sweet. For a while there I wasn't sure if she was interested in getting her licence, but she has proven to be a pretty good driver.

Even though it had already snowed in Idaho Falls by this time, this day was special This day was the sticky snow day, the kind that you could roll and pick up 1 to 2 inched of snow at a time.

This a a pretty bad picture, but I think this is the first time I ever saw snow while driving to Utah. I don't even remeber it. I am the one in lime green, a favorite outfit. We were a bit under dresses.

So, it's always a surprise when she's got enough money to buy something big. Because she bought this one online, we did help a little and she would pay us back. So it was a beautiful day when her Bernette Bernina came in the mail.

Don't Suck Your thumb or It will Ruin Your Teeth!

Anyone who has a thumb sucker knows that they can't just quit when they want to. You can see how her two front teeth are pulled out in front.

After trying the gloves, popsicle stick taped to your thumb, the hot fingernail polish, socks on hands at night, etc. She would cry because she wanted to quit so bad, but it was so hard. We were blessed with an accident that didn't seem like a blessing at the time.

Anna was about 5, right around kindergarten. She was playing downstairs by the couch and slipped near the big, wood desk. Her chin hit the desk so hard that she knocked her teeth loose. She took a chunk out of the inside of her lip and had a cut on the outside. It was do sore that she quit sucking her thumb. I really think we would have struggled with that one for a long time. The picture with the dandylions shows her teeth that reattached crooked.

This is a good picture of her crazy teeth. She was still adorable.

So after years of braces here she is with the braces gone, hopefully forever.

Let me tell you a little story about a girl who sucked her thumb since the day she was born. I suspect it probably started way before that.

Thanksgiving Part 2

The second part of our trip was to Washougal, Washington to visit my sister Megan and her family, Travis(husband), Tommy, Susie, Ivy and Miller.

We were still wowed by the beauty of this state. The first day we went to Multnomah Falls and the Fish hatchery. We saw a 7 foot Stergeon. It was still a little chilly, but breathtaking. The stergeon was just crazy big.

Thanksgiving in Washington Part 1

When we arrived at Woodenville, we didn't realize that we were stepping into the woods. Really, while driving the backroads, the mossy trees looked like they were going to come to life.

Because the Webbs know how to have a good time, they found a stake dance for the girls to attend, the day we arrived. It was fun for them to go together. Check out the moves.

Over the river and through the woods to Seattle we go.

First stop is the Space Needle. What is this snow? But it never snows in Seattle. We must have brought it with us.

OK this gross, Ling Cod is connected to a stick and whenever unsuspecting young women passed by they shake the stick and people jump or scream. When these two came by it actually dropped to the floor like it was alive. It was pretty funny.

Seattle at dusk.

This is the story of all stories on our trip home from Seattle. Woodenville is only 17 miles from Seattle. Jenny told us a story of how it took her two hours to get to a soccor game because people do not know how to do snow here. Well, I have a friend who lives in Seattle and said they only have two snow plows. Whether that is true or not, we experienced the ultimate in not being prepared for the snow. We feel Jenny's pain. We started on our way home at about 5:30pm. It took us about 2 hours just to get passed the Space Needle. Now at this point we are all going crazy wondering what to do, where to go, this has to get better. We kept looking on the bright side and trying to convince each other during our crawl through the city. Now according to the stories we heard that's as bad as it will get. So onto I-5, finally we're getting somewhere. There is really only about an inch of snow on the ground. We were moving some and mostly stopped and trapped, not knowing any other way to go. Luckily Kyle went with Phil and Jenny came with us. She's the fun aunt that kept us laughing, hysterically as we came to a standstill on the bridge. We were on the bridge stopped for 3 hours. Stopped with no food, water bathroom and 5 children. Natalie was the only one who really had to go and since we weren't moving she fell asleep in the back, which was basically a miracle. While we were going crazy we talked to a guy that left his car to see what was happening. He said a bus was Jack Knived and the road was blocked. Because we were stuck so long and didn't have anything else to do,we seriously laughed harder than we had in a long time being on the verge of killing someone. When all of a sudden two police cars are inching their way through the two laned trafficcoming from Seattle. This bridge does not have room for them. It takes at least an hour and we are all hugging the outside of the bridge to let them through. When traffic thankfully starts moving we see that the policemen from Seattle are directing the traffic. Why would they be directing traffic? Where are the policemen on the other side where there is no traffic. Are they at a party or on vacation? We absolutely couldn't believe it. The bus that was supposedly Jack Knived was only blocking one lane and the edge of the second. There were three lanes. The bus driver walked away from the bus, as we learned do many people in this area, which could also explain the stopped traffic. Why did we stop, I"m still perplexed. Then about 20 yards down from the bus the traffic merged anyway. So, we heard there was a pregnant women on the bridge who didn't dare get out because she didn't want to go into labor. Did this really need to happen? That is the question.
This is a picture of the survivors. The only reason they look cheerful is because we are going for a milkshake the next day. Anna was really a trooper entertaining the kids in the back. They had no idea that we were having a problem. It took us 7 hours to get 17 miles. I think I could say that is a record. I'd like to know if anyone can beat it.

When we finally started moving way after midnight we had to laugh at this little snowman that someone built while sitting and waiting with us and the other 5,000 cars trapped that night.

Needless to say we didn't leave Woodenville on the last day with the Webbs. Instead we had Hors Devours prepared by Sterling .

We had a good old fashioned Crab and Salmon bake. It was delicious and felt like Thanksgiving. We actually had a fantastic time and really learned a lot about Washington.

The neatest thing about this reunion started before the party began. We did a live temple session at the Manti temple. My Dad and Mom were working and participated. It was very special to have three generations present.

For the actual reunion we had four generations. It's weird that I'm not the kid anymore.

We almost didn't get swimming lessons in this summer because we didn't have two weeks free, and even though we missed one day it was still worth it. This year we even got our neighbors, Alli and Taylor as teachers and Liv got to do it with Makenna.

Pioneer Day

In the Spring I was called to be the Activities Chairman. I have to admit that I did have this calling once before in my single BYU Days, but I was surprised and pleased to get it again. The thing that surprised me the most, was how helpful ward members were at every activity. So the Pioneer activity was originally going only be a parade with donuts. Kind of a quick morning activity, because people have things to do. Well the primary volunteered to do like 8 or maybe 10 small activities for the kids as well. We had homemade ice cream, stick pull, tug of war, relays, kettle corn, etc. It was so fun. So, this activity turned out a lot better than I planned because of them. The parade went around the parking lot led by the Harts and primary music. The Bishop and Brother Sondrup led the parade on decorated bikes and it was still a short activity. The primary presidency is Julie A., Joy T., Karla C., and Christy M. My committee was Erin R., Jeana C., Talitha J., and Dale and Christy C. They are awesome.

I have to admit that this trip was pure luxury. Every year Jeff has to go to a training in some city far away from home. I've only been on one in the past. Wives are invited, but you have to pay for your own plane ticket. Even though I am from California, I don't ever remember going to San Diego. So this is how it went. It was Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Jeff went to training in the day, met me for breaks and lunch. Then the evenings were free and Saturday was only morning training. The Orullians were our companions on the trip and they were great.

Every night Coronado Island would have fireworks. So one night while we were in the hot tub we got a show. The last night we saw the fireworks while eating in an outside restaurant on the bay.

Our hotel had two towers. This is between them.

And a shot of the city. We were right on the bay if you look the other direction.

At about 10:00pm we were in the mood for ice cream. So we got directions to Ghiradelli Icecream and headed downtown on foot. The city seemed pretty tame, until we got near the Ice Cream place and there were more and more single people dressed to kill. The ice cream place was right across the street from two night clubs. I felt like I was in a movie with all the people. Needless to say we went home the other way.

Friday night we had a dinner and volleyball on the beach with the Utah and Idaho financial advisors and wives. I have always dreamed of playing volleyball on the beach. We actually ran into a young adult church group having an activity on this beach.

All of the wholesalers set up booths and give away free gadgets to get your attention. So, this was one of the attractions. Look at the likeness. You've really got to be Ok with yourself because they never turned out pretty.

The last day we went to Coronado Island with Jamie and Janet.

San Diego sign. She had the camera and ours wasn't really working. Janet and I ate at the hotel restaurant every morning and got Belgian Waffles and omelets prepared right before our eyes every morning. The boys were pretty jealous.

We rode a boat there and it was so beautiful with flowers every where.

Sad to say, but besides being with my cute husband and with friends my favorite part of this trip was not having to clean my hotel room. These rooms were nicer than we would ever get as a family and they were chosen for us. Going out to eat was pretty dreamy too. I can't wait to do it again.

Fourth of July 2010

OK here is the drill for Fourth of July

1. Sleep on the Tramp the night before and watch the fireworks in the sky.

2. Jeff takes a kid or two to get a spot for watching the parade. Throw the football and eat donuts while waiting.

3. Watch the parade. Be obnoxious and get lots of candy.

4. Go to Kate Courley Park. Eat, play and eat. Then drive home without any traffic.

5. Find or host a volleyball game in the scorching hot sun. Thsi year we went to a tounament, but my doctor said I couldn't play. (Recent surgery) Jeff, Anna and Kate did.

6. Have a barbeque at Grammie and Grandads

7. Go to the greenbelt 1/2 hour before the fireworks and find a great spot. Most people don't need as much room as they save and when the fireworks start, there is always room.

I haven't ever slept on the tramp because when this traditon started, I always had babies. Well this year Jeff challenged me to do it. I took the challenge and did it. The Webbs joined us this year. From 10:00pm to 12:00pm it is awesome. Then the sleeping part is slightly on the brutal side because we all gravitate to the middle and interlock feet to keep from sliding in. Jeff said this may have to be his last year. We'll see.

The rest of the day was spent with the Jones, Webbs and Michael and Stephanie Jones
